Texas Asbestos Lawsuits

Cooper Suffers Under Texas Asbestos Lawsuits

Several Texas asbestos lawsuits saw Cooper Industries, a manufacturing company located in Houston Texas, ordered by the court to pay $307 million in asbestos related fatalities claims. The numerous lawsuits were filed in July 2010, in which it challenged the venture between manufacturer Danaher and cooper industries to honor claims on asbestos.

The asbestos mineral which is found freely in the atmosphere was once widely used by manufacturers, but once its fatal health effects were discovered in the 1980s, its use was illegalized across the United States. However, equipment containing asbestos are still in use and some manufacturing companies are using this mineral, which has been known to cause a cancer known as mesothelioma, which affects the chest area and organs.

The Texas asbestos lawsuits details indicate that the $307 million will be invested in trust between Cooper Industries and Pneumo Abex, with Pneumo Abex and affiliates pumping $5 million more into the trust. To take care of subsequent asbestos related cases that might follow, Cooper Industries was ordered to pay $15 million to Pneumo Abex.

On its part, Pneumo Abex has featured in a number of Texas asbestos lawsuits, mostly involving fatalities. The emergence of these types of cases has drawn the attention of possible victims of asbestos exposure, and there have been calls for action for the victims. Considering that exposure to asbestos may take about 50 years to be clearly manifest, there may be many more asbestos related suits on the way.

The Texas asbestos lawsuits served as an eye opener to the people who are prone to exposure, especially workers in factories. Most of the mesothelioma victims are exposed to the dangerous mineral while working and this exposure may be due to neglect on the side of contractors. Some of them know of the presence of the harmful mineral but choose to let the workers work in such environments without protective gear.

As a way of dealing with the challenge of seeking justice and financial damages for victims, mesothelioma patients are urged to use the services of an attorney. Working with a lawyer who specializes in this field is a sure way of tracking down those responsible for the condition and in essence making them pay for their misdeeds. The suits in such cases offer huge compensations for medical care and damages. The Texas asbestos lawsuits have not only provided reprieve for the victims in this case, but also offered hope for victims who have suffered.
